The End (For Now)

Well, I’ve reached the finish line. Today ends my official “Blog Challenge 2016.” I’m proud of this accomplishment — I’ve posted all but one day the entire month of February. Conceptualizing, writing, and editing posts every day is very time consuming. However, I feel that I’ve learned a lot from this challenge and it has encouraged me to continue blogging regularly in the future.

Thoughts and Lessons Learned

  • My favorite posts to write include my travel posts or photo essay posts, where I’ve been able to share multiple photos from a single place with a deeper written essay. I dislike instagram’s discouragement of long captions and glad I can write more with my photos here.
  • Editing is the hardest part! I could easily write a 300 word blog post, but I’d spend more time editing the post than writing it! However, I think I have improved my writing skills, which was part of the reason I completed this challenge.
  • Writing longer blog posts are much more rewarding, but they take exponentially longer to draft. I still have a few unfinished long form blog posts I started this month that I hope to post in the future.
  • I want to continue combining my love of preservation and art in my blogging. My preservation valentines and Color Indianapolis posts were the most popular during the month. I’m glad this blog challenge encouraged me to finally start my Color Indianapolis series, which I’ve been wanting to start since the fall.

In the future, I am going to set a goal to blog at least once a week, with a stretch goal of twice a week. I want to set a regular schedule so you will know when to expect my new posts. I won’t be going away, but I won’t be posting every day. It’s time for a break!

Thank you to everyone who read, liked, commented, and shared my posts over the past month. Your support means the world and lets me know I am doing something right! I’d love to hear your feedback on the past month and any advice you have for my blog moving forward.

Most of all, thanks to Kaitlin for encouraging me to start this challenge. We did it!
