Currently Listening

I’m currently watching the GRAMMY’s in anticipation for Hamilton’s performance, so I thought I’d share what I’m currently listening to — a break from my preservation and architecture posts. Since I’ve been listening to Hamilton since it first appeared on NPR on September 21st, I thought I’d highlight others that have made their way into my headphones…The Secret Garden Broadway Cast Album

1. The Secret Garden 1991 Original Broadway Cast Album. If you are a twitter friend, you know I’ve been anxiously awaiting the upcoming Secret Garden concert at Lincoln Center. I’ll be heading to NYC this weekend to see this amazing concert production of one of my favorite musicals. I’ve been longing for a revival since it closed in 1993, but will have to enjoy this concert for now! My favorite songs are Lily’s Eyes, The Girl I Mean to Be, and Wick.

What's Inside Songs from Waitress

2.Sara Bareilles, What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress. This was the first musical that inspired me to get my repeat button off Hamilton. Since I’d heard about this new musical, I was intrigued. After listening to selections from Sara Bareilles score, I was instantly hooked. Sometimes, I’ll just get “Sugar, Butter, Flour” stuck in my head. I’m planning to see Waitress in April and looking forward to it!

Dear Evan Hansen

4. Waving Through a Window from Dear Evan Hansen. Until they release a cast recording, this one soundcloud song will just continue to rack up the plays. The key change at the end — right when the recording cuts off — is just so perfect, and it always sadness me there isn’t more. If this is what we have to look forward to in this production, it is going to be amazing!

Good For You
5. Leslie Odom Jr. – Good For You ft. Daveed Diggs. This one has recently entered the mix because it combines so many things I love. I really do enjoy Selena Gomez’s Good for You and with Leslie Odom Jr.’s voice, it is absolute perfection. I wouldn’t mind seeing an entire album with Leslie Odom Jr. and Daveed Diggs collaborating. Bonus, you can download this song for free here.

This post has taken far longer than needed to draft, as I’ve been distracted by Hamilton and Adele performances. Share your recommendations – what are you currently obsessed with?
