Preservation Before and After: 1885 Through Truss Bridge

Amazing before and after pictures can really illustrate the power of preservation of historic resources. The preservation of historic bridges can be a challenge on many fronts, but I was delighted to see the rehabilitation of this 1888 Through Truss Bridge. This small steel bridge is located in Johnson County, Indiana on Stone Arch Road. This bridge was built by the Massillon Bridge Company of Massillon, Ohio.

As you can see, this bridge received a new coat of paint, a new decking, and replacement in kind of a few structural members. The existing bridge was in pretty good shape, but the bright red paint gives the bridge a whole new life!
